Presentation

Artistic Resilience in Ciudad Trujillo: Antitrujillism in the Dominican Arts in the Middle of the Past Century

I tackle in this presentation the response of the Dominican intellectual group and the exiled European people facing the state terror of the Trujillo's dictatorship in the Dominican Republic. It is expected with that to provide with a list of protagonists, reactions and strategies in order to understand the attitudes that defined what might call ‘the resilience in arts.’ Being informative with respect to the literary studies on this subject – much more advanced in novels– I will try to open, however, a line of comparative research in the Dominican plastic arts that interprets its symbolic aspect as a way of resistance from the sociology of art and semiotics.
